Three years with IMPACT the RACE

In 2020, the School of Medicine (SOM) was awarded a Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) grant in the Value-Based Medical Student Education Training Program. With the grant, SOM developed a program designed to enhance rural medical education for students: IMPACT The RACE- Improved Primary Care for the Rural Community through Medical Education. Revolutionizing Biomedical Education: The Impact of Immersive Technologies

In recent years, advancements in technology have paved the way for transformation in various fields, and biomedical education is no exception. Immersive technologies, encompassing virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), and mixed reality (MR), have emerged as powerful tools that offer unique learning experiences. The Department of Advanced Biomedical Education at UMMC is incorporating these technologies to enhance learners’ experiences and to bring innovation into the learning process. Norma Ojeda, MD, provides details about these technologies.

Submission of Summative (Final) Grades

The medical school is required by our accrediting body, the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME), to have a policy and procedure to ensure that students receive final grades within a timely manner. The School of Medicine’s Policy and Procedure on Grading and Academic Status addresses this LCME expectation and outlines how we meet it.

Exploring Health Care Pathways: Inspiring high school students to pursue health care careers

The Office of Admissions and Improving Primary Care for the Rural Community through Medical Education (IMPACT the RACE) are conducting the third annual Exploring Health Care Pathways Outreach Program. The program is designed to provide students with the opportunity to learn about careers in medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, nursing, health-related professions (medical laboratory science, radiologic sciences, health administration, health informatics and information management, medical scribe specialty, occupational therapy, and physical therapy) or basic science research. Rowland Medical Library Spotlights: JoVE Unlimited

Through Rowland Medical Library, UMMC faculty and students can now access JoVE Unlimited. JoVE Unlimited contains over 19,000 STEM videos, including coverage of the foundational sciences, clinical medicine, and laboratory methods.
